Frequently Asked Questions

What is Marriage and Family Therapy? What if I’m not married or seeking family therapy?

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) are psychotherapists who are trained in understanding and treating mental health issues, have knowledge of family systems and relationships, and can work with individuals, relationships, and families. You definitely do not have to be married or seeking family therapy to see an LMFT! Many therapists you will meet in California are likely to be LMFTs (it’s one of the most common licenses for practicing psychotherapy in this state). My training includes experience working with individuals as well as families and couples/partnerships - and right now I primarily work with individuals and couples/partnerships.

What ages do you work with?

I work with adults ages 18+

Do you take insurance?

No, I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance. If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a monthly “superbill” - a document which you may submit to your insurance provider in order to seek reimbursement.

I recommend that you first contact your insurance provider to inquire about your out-of-network therapy benefits, the coverage amount for therapy sessions, any deductible, if there is a limit to how many sessions your benefits will cover, and how to submit claims for reimbursement.

What is the fee for therapy?

$225 for individual therapy sessions

$270 for couples/partnership therapy sessions

Payment is accepted via cash, check, and most major credit cards including HSA and FSA cards.

If cost is a barrier to therapy, I offer a limited number of reduced fee spots - please reach out to inquire about availability.

What is the length of a session?

Sessions are 50 minutes long. Longer sessions for couples/partnership therapy may be available upon request for an additional fee, if you and I agree this would best support your work in couples/relationship therapy.

How long will therapy take?

The length of treatment is different for everyone, and depends on a number of factors including what you want to work on, unique challenges and stressors you may be dealing with in your life right now, and the impact of underlying issues such as past trauma. You know yourself best, and I will work with you to help you determine when you have reached your goals in therapy. That does not mean every problem in your life will be solved after therapy, but you will feel more confident and equipped to face future challenges!

I am currently living or traveling outside of California - can I still see you for therapy?

No - I am licensed as a marriage and family therapist in the state of California, which means I can only provide therapy services to individuals who are physically located in California at the time of our session. If you are an existing client who will be out of state at the time of a scheduled session, please notify me in advance so we can cancel or reschedule to a time when you will be back in California.
