LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapy

"I believe that telling our stories, first to ourselves and then to one another and the world, is a revolutionary act."

- Janet Mock

I specialize in working with queer, trans, and non-binary individuals.

If you are a member of the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, + other identities under this umbrella) community, or someone who is exploring, questioning, or deconstructing ideas about sexuality or gender, you deserve a safe and supportive therapeutic space where your identity and expression are validated and celebrated!

Maybe you are seeking therapy because you’ve just come out, or you’re questioning something about sexuality or gender that you’d like to keep exploring. Maybe you’re struggling with anxiety about relationships because you’re new to being out and dating. Maybe you’ve just realized you’re bisexual or pansexual, but aren’t sure what that means for your longterm relationship now. Maybe you’ve been out and proud for years, but you need support managing anxiety or dealing with a recent loss - and you want a therapist who you won’t have to educate about queer issues. Or maybe you’re ready to do some deeper trauma work, but you want to make sure your therapist isn’t going to pathologize your identity in the process.

I understand how important it is to be able to connect with a therapist who is not just affirming but also knowledgeable and can understand your unique experience and needs. I work from an intersectional feminist, anti-racist, and social-justice-informed approach to help clients examine and navigate the impact of growing up and living in a heteronormative and cisnormative dominant culture. I love helping queer, trans, and non-binary folx grow more confident in themselves, their identities, and their right to take up space in the world.

I am committed to taking a stand against gatekeeping, and contribute to the efforts to remove barriers to life-saving care by providing pro-bono affirming letters for individuals who need a letter from a therapist to access hormones or surgery. If you are already a client seeing me for ongoing therapy, the assessment for an affirming care letter can be done during one of our regular sessions for no additional fee. If you are not a current client, but are seeking a letter for affirming care, please contact me to inquire about current openings for letter-writing.
