Frequently Asked Questions

What is Marriage and Family Therapy? What if I’m not married or seeking family therapy?

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) are psychotherapists who are trained in understanding and treating mental health issues, have knowledge of family systems and relationships, and can work with individuals, relationships, and families. You definitely do not have to be married or seeking family therapy to see an LMFT! Many therapists you will meet in California are likely to be LMFTs (it’s one of the most common licenses for practicing psychotherapy in this state). My training includes working with relationships and families, but I primarily work with individuals right now.

What is art therapy? Do I have to be an artist to do art therapy?

You do not have to be an artist, anyone can do art therapy - no artistic skill or training is required! Art Therapy is very different from taking an art class in school. Using art (drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, mixed media, etc.) as part of the therapeutic process along with talk therapy can help you express and explore thoughts and feelings further, practice mindfulness, look at things differently, and process them in new and creative ways. Many people who have never tried art therapy before enjoy discovering how helpful it can be!

What ages do you work with?

I work with adults ages 18+

Do you work with couples/other partnerships?

At this time I am only taking on new clients for individual therapy - however, if you are seeing me for individual therapy and decide you would also like to pursue relationship therapy with your partner(s), I know some excellent therapists I can refer you to for this work!

Do you take insurance?

No, I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance. I can provide you with a monthly super bill which you may submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

I recommend that you first contact your insurance provider to inquire about your out-of-network therapy benefits, the coverage amount for therapy sessions, if there is a limit to how many sessions your benefits will cover, and how to submit claims for reimbursement.

What is your fee?

My fee is $225 for a 50 minute session.
Payment is accepted via cash, check, and most major credit cards including HSA and FSA cards.

If cost is a barrier to therapy, I offer a limited number of reduced fee spots - please reach out to inquire about availability.

How long does therapy take?

The length of treatment is different for everyone, and depends on a number of factors including what you want to work on, unique challenges and stressors you may be dealing with in your life right now, and the impact of underlying issues such as past trauma. You know yourself best, and I will work with you to help you determine when you have reached your goals in therapy. That does not mean every problem in your life will be solved after therapy, but you will feel more confident and equipped to face future challenges!

I am currently living/traveling outside of California - can I still see you for therapy?

No - I am licensed as a marriage and family therapist in the state of California, which means I can only legally provide therapy services to individuals who are physically located in California.
